LAUNCHub Ventures Named Bulgarian Investor of the Year
September 29, 2017
We are proud to announce that LAUNCHub Ventures has been named Investor of the Year in the Bulgarian round of the Central European Startup Awards.
This year’s Bulgarian jury featured seasoned entrepreneurs like Kiril Petkov, CEO of ProViotic, as well as prominent corporate executives like Rumyana Trencheva, Managing Director of SAP for South-Eastern Europe.
LAUNCHub Ventures received recognition for being the most active investor in the country today.
This year alone, the fund has invested in 12 companies, amongst which are the Techstars-backed FindMeCure, and Taylor & Heart. In addition, LHV led a number of rounds, partnering with prominent funds like Earlybird (for Flips), Speedinvest (for Metrilo), and Innovation Nest (for Doctrina).
Moreover, LHV led the £750K investment round for Heresy - a workflow and analytics platform, founded by the former European MD for Stack Overflow - Dimitar Stanimiroff. The round was also backed by Seedcamp, AngelList, and the London Co-Investment Fund.
Commenting on the award, Leona Aslanova, founder of Innovation Starter and CE Startup Awards Jury member, said:
“I voted for LAUNCHub Ventures because it clearly is the strongest fund on the Bulgarian market. LHV has invested in some of the most successful regional companies”.
Aslanova commented further, saying that another reason she backed the fund was DigitalK - the annual technology conference, organized by LHV:
“LAUNCHub Ventures had the courage to set this event up in Sofia. Over the years, it has grown to become the largest startup conference in South-Eastern Europe. They were confident in their ability to transform Bulgaria into a regional hotspot for innovation. The event has contributed majorly to the formation of a strong startup ecosystem, which has proven extremely valuable for all regional stakeholders.”
The Central European Startup Awards launched in 2014 and have since spanned to 10 countries (Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and Croatia).
The initiative has become the region’s largest startup festival, aiming to recognize entrepreneurs and investors across the region.
The grand finale will be held on the 23rd of November.
For the first time, the city of Sofia will be hosting the ceremony.
Amongst the jury members are Alex Farcet, co-founder of Startup Bootcamp; Tanya Soman, venture partner at 500 Startups; Tanja Kufner, Managing Director of Startup Bootcamp Germany; George Northcott, co-founder of Founders Factory; Manuel Koelman, co-founder of Pirate Summit, and more.
The awards have been steadily growing in popularity, with last year’s event receiving over 800 nominations.
